No pictures!

Upon hindsight, the one area that a couple can really save on their wedding is in the pre-wedding pictures...

The wife and I haven't opened up that black briefcase since one month after our wedding, and we're not likely to until our kids are grown up and want to see how we looked before we grew deep wrinkles and saggy breasts (I'm referring to myself by the way).

The only time we used the pictures were one month before the wedding when we left it at my in-laws place to show everyone who visited, as a slideshow on wedding day, and for about a month after the wedding when people would visit our apartment. Nowadays, no one visits because they think where we live is too far...

So, the RM5,000 to 6,000 that many couples pay for their pre-wedding pictures? Scrap it and save the money. Seriously.

Good thing we went for a cheaper RM2,800 package which came with the wedding dress for the morning ceremony, as well as the wedding dinner evening gowns and tuxedo. Somehow, we got a pretty good promotion and got a RM1,000 shopping voucher and a big hamper as well.

So in the end, it was all right but those promotional deals don't come by so often.

In general, my advice would be to dress up (or casual would do), go somewhere with a bunch of friends and a friend who is a photographer enthusiast. Then knock yourself out for a day taking fun pictures that define you both as individuals, and as a couple, as well as with the close friends who came with you.

Develop the ones you like and keep the rest for the slideshow at the wedding and you're set to go.

It's worth the RM5,000 you save. Think about it.
