Buying and selling

The wife and I sat down long and hard after we found out Natalie was on her way (actually we've done a lot of thinking and discussing these couple of months), and after taking the time to consider all the factors, we decided to move out of our current home.

It wasn't an easy decision.

First of all, the wife grows very attached to where she stays. The house she grew up in was purchased by her parents before she was born and her parents still live there. It was the only home she had ever knew.

Moving to our current apartment was the first time she ever had to move and that in itself took some major adjustment. To cut a long story short, she had to think of the apartment as her amazing new home that she wouldn't mind spending the rest of her life in as we grew old with a football team of children around us.

So...you can imagine the process it took to start discussing about potentially moving out of this home which she had only stayed for less than a year in.

Secondly, the moving costs are considerable. There's a lot of work involved in trying to sell your apartment. We posted the availability in the newspapers and maybe 30 to 40 people have called so far, 95% of which were agents. Then it was constantly making time to show people the place during weekday evenings and weekends.

There's an even greater moving cost of finding and purchasing a new home. I'm still paying off the debts from furnishing our apartment, and suddenly, there's we're back to the legal fees, stamp duties, booking fee, 10% downpayment of the new property, without even considering the renovations and furniture required.

So what's the reason for moving? We wanted to be closer to family, friends and church when we raise Natalie. The wife and I, on the whole, are not exclusive people. We love to involve people and take extra effort to integrate our lives with the people around us, and part of this has to do with ministry, but it's also part of who we are. When we move closer to everyone, we hope to be able to entertain you all more in our new home as well and we look forward to it.

The reasons are good enough.

Now it's just the incredibly hard work and heart-wrenching financial drain to take it from here to there.

Thank you keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.
